DeLong (great-grandson of our subject George) wrote the following in his 1987 book which was privately published "GENEALOGY/AUXIER, DELONG AND BROWN":

George E. Delong b. 1812, Ohio-d 18_2, Delong, Martin Co., Ky M. 3 September, 1839, Louisa, Ky. Mary "Polly" Moore b. Va. ca. 1816-eo William Moore, Sr., & ?. Mary was a sister of John Moore who married Cynthia Delong. George & Polly lived out their lives in four counties without having moved once. The farm was located on the East side of Middle Fork of Rockcastle Creek on a 1,000 acres tract which he called his farm-one of several he eventually owned, more than five thousand acres in all. In addition he purchased the Rev. Samuel Hann Farms, and deeded them to three of his sos. These were located on John's Creek. These three sons were Wm. Isaac(sic) Delong, Sr., John T. and Sampson Delong. The name George runs through out the early De-Family. We sometimes refer to George E as George III. The E in his name may have been for his Uncle Edward.

Two years before his death George sold 1500 acres of his land. In his will dated 26 Jan, 1892 he gave his home and farm to two of his three bachelor sons, Jeff and George W. Delong-stipulating that they were to care for his beloved wife, Mary-who survived him for several years. George E. & Mary "Polly" (Moore) Delong were the writer's paternal G-Grandparents.

In 1976-having met at my brother, Cletus, funeral in West Liberty, a boyhood fried of Cletus in the person of Elijah McGinnis-I went the following week to Martin County and spent three days with my new friend. Mr. McGinnis was born on McGinnis Branch-two branches down stream, and on the same side of Rockcastle Creek as my G-Grandfather's farm. He is the son of George W. McGinnis and Susan Mollett-and the grandson of James Monroe & Louisa (Brown) McGinnis-and the G-Grandson of Hiram & Sarah (Delong) McGinnis. Elijah was born in 1894, has outlived two wives, and now lives near the head of Middle Fork of Rockcastle Creek-in a later house, but on the spot where Richard "Dick" & Nancy (Delong) Buskirk once lived-at the foot of the south side of the hill below the Davella #7 mine.

Mr. Elijah McGinnis had one of those rare memories that seems never, have forgotten anything which ever occurred, or was told. I phoned "Liege" recently, and now approaching 91 he isn't so well.

On my original visit I taped Mr. McGinnis a day and one half; then I asked could he take me to the George Delong farm-about 5 miles down the creek. He willingly complied. The farm is on the opposite side of the creek from the road. As the ford was not usable we waded the creek, walked across the large bottom of tall grass that lay in front, above and below the house sat at the base of the hill, and beside where the Twin Branch comes out of the canyon and meanders across the bottom. My friend described the house which for so long was home to so many. "There were," he said, "Three large pens under one roof." Supposedly George & Mary built the house soon after wedding, 1839. Jeff died testate willing his half of the thousand acres and his sawmill to two of his brother, George W. & Marion. Marion died testate, but George W. died intestate. Through Mesdame conveyances I and hundreds of others inherited small interests.
