~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Following from the research of long time Delong researcher the late John D. Baldwin III.
SAMUEL (3-1-4-8) b. 1817-8, apparently SAMUEL JEFFERSON, an infant at time of the census taken April 1820. There is reportedly an O. P. DeLong on the same tombstone as Samuel in DeLong Cemetery, Martin Co., KY, with dates 1818-1890. I do not agree with A. Corfman that such an O. P. (or even a D(avid) P. as she also suggests possible) would be the youngest son in 1820 and gone by 1830.
Samuel is apparent son of George & Mary Barbara "Polly" (Auxier) Delong.
1842 - Md. Lawrence Co. (Ky.? Ohio?: A. C. has alternated with the latest being Ohio in a 1978 letter) Aug. 9, Jemima Wells b. Va. May 1, 1823, known to descendants as Miriam. (Carla Nash has name of spouse as May Ann Wells and md. Aug 9, 1842 in Lawrence Co., OH)
1850 - census Johnson Co., KY, Samuel (30), wife Jemima (27), children: John (6), Julian (5), David (4) & Daniel (1).
1856 - Traditionally he was father of the George W. Wolfe b. Dec. 26, 1856 recorded without identification in the Bible of Samuel's brother Francis. Wolfe appeared in 1870, age 12 in the home of Samuel's bro. James.
1857 - 65 - Samuel appears in KY land surveys.
1860 - census Johnson Co., KY, Sameuel (37), wife Jamima(sic)(35), John (16), Julia (14), David (13), Nancy J. (10), G.W. (7), Angelina (5), Mary (2), & Wm G. (8/12).
1861 - Enlisted Nov. 8 at Louisa, KY, in Co. K, 14th Regt, K.V.I, and mustered out from that company after three years. However he spent most of the time in Co. G.
1870 - census Rockcastle Precinct, Johnson Co., KY, Samuel (51), Miriam (49), David (22), Nancy J. (18), George (17), Angelina (15), Mary (13), William (10), & Sarah (7).
Angelina Delong Davis b. 1855. 8. Mary E. Delong Williamson b. 1858. 9. William Garfield Delong b. 1860. 10. Sarah Delong Eddington b. 1862. 11.
