1820 Settler Departed 7 Jan 1820 Portsmouth, Hampshire, England Age: 20y
Bowker's Party on the Weymouth
(He was the pioneer patriarch of the Flooks family in South Africa.)
(Who was his father? Couldnʼt have been William Todd, or he would have taken his surname. Younger brother Archibald also had no birth father recorded. Did they have the same father? Maybe not, as they were born approx. 5 yrs apart.)
-----------------------------------------
His name variously given as Down, Hooks Down, Flooks Down, Flooks and Frooks. Flooksdown is the version in Bowker's manuscript. Given as FLOOKS in the Albany Register an Marriage Register Reflected as "G H Down" on Muster roll for the Weymouth! Some records show him as George Hooksdown and Flooksdown! He was in fact George Flooks from Downton, Wiltshire.
MARRIAGE In St.George’s Church Graham’s Town on Thursday Feb 4 1830 by the Rev W. Carlisle MA Chaplain: George HOOKS to Hannah GREEN [Transcriber%E2%80%99s note: should be FLOOKS]
