George Henry Hollingsworth was the son of Abraham and Ann Hollingsworth. He was Grandson of Thomas Valentine and Margaret Hollingworth. And he was the Great gandson of Valentine Hollingsworth and Anna Rea Ree Hollingsworth.

George Henry Was married twice, 1st to Hannah McKay(McCoy) on 19 Dec 1734. She Died 1753. And 2nd to Jane Elwell in 1754

Notes for George Henry Hollingsworth:

His marriage to Hannah McCoy was the first marriage of Friends in the Shenandoah Valley.

While Abraham and Ann Hollingsworth's youngest son Isaac became a leader among the Society of Friends at Hopewell, VA, less is known about their oldest son George.

Like his brother, though, it is known that George was also a very active member of the the Quakers. In the years 1754-1755, a determined effort was initiated by the colonial government to encourage Friends to bear arms against the French and the Indians and upon constant refusals, some were beaten and imprisoned. One of these who was jailed was George, although his term in prison was evidently brief.

The records of Frederick County, VA, show that in September of 1754, eight Hopewell Quakers were jailed in Winchester, where they remained for more than a year. On one occasion, Hopewell friends conducted a meeting beneath the jail windows until dispersed by soldiers, who captured one of the participants. The one seized was George Hollingsworth and he was also thrown into prison. After a brief period of incarceration (exact length unknown) George was fined the sum of five pounds Sterling for "disorderly meeting and assembly" and then released.

He sold his property near Winchester, VA. to Joseph Lupton, in 1762, after this, all the family went to SC. After that, to the west, except Roberts family.

Four of his sons, Isaac, James, George and Nathan moved to Miami County, OH about 1805 probably influenced by the Quaker preacher, Zachariah Dicks, who travelled through the South with predictions of the coming Civil War.

George Hollingsworth was appointed Overseer of the road from Littlers to Hollingsworth's Mill in the Orange Co., VA Road Orders, Aug. 26, 1742. A George was listed in the Rent Rolls for Frederick Co., VA in 1759 and 1764 that is likely to be him. George was granted 350 acres of land in Craven Co., NC on a branch of Little River called Mudlick Creek on Feb. 3, 1767. He and his wife, "Jean", sold 155 acres of it to John Williams on July 1772. Witnesses were Joseph Hollingsworth, Quaker, George and James Hollingsworth (his sons). It also states that George gave some of his original land grant to son Joseph. Joseph gave it to David Hollingsworth. David sold it to James Burnside on Sept. 15, 1813-Jan. 1814.

(firstly) Hannah MCCOY, Sr., of Augusta County, Virginia; in 1762 he sold all his property near Winchester, Virginia, and he and all his family except his son Robert and his family, went to South Carolina, and then to the West; m.
