On 10 December 1811 an indenture was made to Moses Fussell by George regarding the property of Elizabeth in which George agreed to pay Elizabeth annual payments through 1813. This would seem to indicate a divorce. Moses Fussell and much of his family, including Elizabeth and George's brother James, moved to Dickson County, Tennessee between 1814 and 1818.
After this divorce George married 2) PRISCILLA WINSLOW between 1811 and 1814. She was born 1795 in Orange County, North Carolina and died 5 January 1853 in Moore County, North Carolina.

George Horner [age 72 as of next Feb 7th] and resident of Moore County, NC applied for a pension. He was born 7 Feb. 1762 in Orange County, NC & in 1780 moved to Randolph County, NC to live with his half brother William Horner. Later moved back to Orange County and in 1823 he moved to Moore County, NC. John Williams and James Melton [Moore County residents] filed affidavits of support. His twin brother Thomas Horner, veteran, lived in Orange County in 1833. Widow Priscilla Horner applied Jul 28, 1846 and listed Horner's death date as Aug 2. 1844. She stated that she [Priscilla Windslow] married Horner in Guilford County, NC on 12 May or 12 Aug. 1784 (both dates given). Mary Claves filed affadvit of support. Priscilla died Jan 5, 1853. Son George Washington Horner, the oldest son [Moore County resident] stated he was born Feb 24, 1784. [Editor's note: I believe that Priscilla was George's 2nd wife and that she and son George Washington Horner misstated birth and marriage dates. I believe this relates to the fact that they were concerned that as the 2nd wife she would not be entitled to his pension and they may not have known that his first wife died in 1839 in Dickson County, TN]

Thomas Horner [age 72], Orange County, NC resident, applied for a pension. Horner stated that he was born in Orange County in Feb 7, 1760/1761. On Oct 16, 1858, Richard Holeman [age 51] attested that Thomas Horner died May 10, 1844 in Orange County, NC with widow Sarah [Fuzzell] Horner and three surviving children: William and Jefferson [residents of Granville County, NC] and Lucretia Holeman [wife of Richard]; and widow Sarah Horner died Mar 1, 1858 [age 84]. James C. Roberts [age 63] and E.T. Mangum [age 61] also attested to Horner's service and date of death. On Nov 16, 1836, George Horner of Moore County, NC attested that he and Thomas Horner volunteered and served together. Affidavit from Orange County, NC confirmed Thomas Horner's marriage to Sarah Fuzzell on Feb 7, 1793 with Abner B. Bruce as a witness.

GEORGE R. HORNER [16594] was born 7 February 1761 in Orange County, North Carolina, and died 2 August 1844 in Moore County, North Carolina. George served in the North Carolina Militia during the Revolutionary War for which he received a pension. He held the rank of Private, Ensign then Lieutenant. During his first enlistment on 25 August 1780, he and brother Thomas guarded prisoners and protected the City of Hillsborough, Orange County, North Carolina for about three months against the incursions of the Tories. THere was another call for volunteers in 1782. His father provided a horse and bridle. George was a large man and a very good horseman. He served under Captain York and left the service as a Lieutenant. In 1779 he was awarded a grant of 250 acres on the west side of Mountain Creek in Orange County. In September 1784 he received an additional grant of 200 acres. His father deeded him 70 acres of his plantation in Orange County on 6 January 1785. He married 1) ELIZABETH FUSSEL on 26 Jun 1793 in Orange County, North Carolina, daughter of MOSES FUSSELL and LUCRETIA WILKERSON. She was born about Jun 1775 in Orange County, North Carolina, and died before 12 March 1839 in Dickson County, Tennessee. In 1790 her father owned 420 acres in Granville County, North Carolina (spanned current Wake and Orange counties). They had three daughters and one slave in Orange County in 1800. This would seem to indicate a divorce. Moses Fussell and much of his family, including Elizabeth and George's brother James, moved to Dickson County, Tennessee between 1814 and 1818. After this divorce George married 2) PRISCILLA WINSLOW between 1811 and 1814. She was born 1795 in Orange County, North Carolina and died 5 January 1853 in Moore County, North Carolina. They owned two slaves under the age of twenty-five in 1820. The moved from Orange to Moore County, North Carolina in 1823. On 4 March 1831, at the age of 73, George filed for a pension (which was granted) for his revolutionary service. Priscilla is buried in Milton (aka Franklin Muse) Cemetery, Moore County, North Carolina.

Research Notes: There is some confusion related to the spouse of Elizabeth Fussell, daughter of Moses Fussell. Elizabeth married a George Horner in Orange County, NC on 26 Jun 1793 and the bondsman was Thomas Horner; indicating a link to this family. Most researchers believe that this was George Sr., a fact that seems unlikely given his advanced age and the subsequent separation in 1811. On 7 Feb 1793, Thomas Horner married Sarah Fussell, Elizabeth's sister. Wyatt Fussell, Elizabeth's brother, married a Delilah Horner in 1795 and again Thomas Horner served as Bondsman. In 1801 Lucretia "Lucy" Fussell married Thomas' brother James Horner. This rash of Horner-Fussell sibling-sibling marriages seems to point to the possibility that Elizabeth actually married George Sr.'s son George Jr., Thomas's brother. This may not be correct as according to some researchers George Jr.'s pension application claimed that he was in Moore County, NC by 1810 and pension records indicate that he was married to Priscilla Winslow at the time of his death. Of course George Jr. and Elizabeth may have been separated at the time and he may not yet married to Priscilla. This writer has not yet found records to support this but if true, there is probably another George in this family that is not accounted for. Until this mystery is solved we cannot be sure who married a Elizabeth Fussell.

Many researchers list Samuel Horner who married Matilda as a child of George and Elizabeth. Samuel and Matilda were actually slaves of George who took the Horner name when freed.

GEORGE R. HORNER [16594] was born 7 February 1761 in Orange County, North Carolina, and died 2 August 1844 in Moore County, North Carolina. George served in the North Carolina Militia during the Revolutionary War for which he received a pension. He held the rank of Private, Ensign then Lieutenant. During his first enlistment on 25 August 1780, he and brother Thomas guarded prisoners and protected the City of Hillsborough, Orange County, North Carolina for about three months against the incursions of the Tories. THere was another call for volunteers in 1782. His father provided a horse and bridle. George was a large man and a very good horseman. He served under Captain York and left the service as a Lieutenant. In 1779 he was awarded a grant of 250 acres on the west side of Mountain Creek in Orange County. In September 1784 he received an additional grant of 200 acres. His father deeded him 70 acres of his plantation in Orange County on 6 January 1785. He married 1) ELIZABETH FUSSEL on 26 Jun 1793 in Orange County, North Carolina, daughter of MOSES FUSSELL and LUCRETIA WILKERSON. She was born about Jun 1775 in Orange County, North Carolina, and died before 12 March 1839 in Dickson County, Tennessee. In 1790 her father owned 420 acres in Granville County, North Carolina (spanned current Wake and Orange counties). They had three daughters and one slave in Orange County in 1800. On 10 December 1811 an indenture was made to Moses Fussell by George regarding the property of Elizabeth in which George agreed to pay Elizabeth annual payments through 1813. This would seem to indicate a divorce. Moses Fussell and much of his family, including Elizabeth and George's brother James, moved to Dickson County, Tennessee between 1814 and 1818. After this divorce George married 2) PRISCILLA WINSLOW between 1811 and 1814. She was born 1795 in Orange County, North Carolina and died 5 January 1853 in Moore County, North Carolina. They owned two slaves under the age of twenty-five in 1820. The moved from Orange to Moore County, North Carolina in 1823. On 4 March 1831, at the age of 73, George filed for a pension (which was granted) for his revolutionary service. Priscilla is buried in Milton (aka Franklin Muse) Cemetery, Moore County, North Carolina.
