According to "A Horner Legacy" William Horner took a wagon load ofbeef to Washington's camp at Valley Forge and there met John C.Coltharp who was a soldier in Washington's service. Horner talkedColtharp into moving to Eastern TN. after the war.
"The earliest records in Tennessee show William and Elizabeth'sresidence in Washington County, Tennessee, on lands in the 'Holstein'on Sinking Creek."
William Horner "was a Deacon of the Bent Creek Baptist Church. He wasa surveyor and came to Greene County, Tennessee in 1782. [He] donatedthe land which became the Bent Creek Cemetery in 1810 near Whitesburg,Jefferson County, Tennessee." [A Horne r Legacy]
William Horner Sr.'s will from Jefferson TN Wills, p. 431:
In the name of God Amen, I William Horner Senr. of Jefferson CountyTennessee State considering the uncertainly of this mortal life andbeing of sound mind and memory blessed by Almighty God for the same Dopublish this my last Will and Testamen t in manner and form as followstowit: I recommend my soul and body to God who gave them for his ownGlory and as to what worldly Estate it pleases him to bless me with inthis life I give and bequeath in manner and form as follows, that isto say fir st I will that my debts be collected and all my debts bepaid if there is any money left it will be otherwise devised.-SecondlyI will that my son Isaac Horner have all my lands I have made towright to and improvements and that the said Isaac Horne r is to pay myheirs six hundred and fifty dollars as I shall direct towit: toWilliam Horner junior one hundred dollars and fifty dollars to eachother heirs now a going to be menchened to wit: John Marian ElisabethGeorge Ann Catherine Cavlier Esthe r Mary Susannah and Oaney [Vaney]and the said Isaac Horner is to have some indulgence in making paymentafter my decease that of the length of 5 years unless both partiesagree-Thirdly I will that all my perishable property that is notdispose d of at my decease such as horses cattle hogs householdfurniture and tools of all sorts such as I have with everything thatis mine to be sold and as to my books they shall be equally dividedamonst my sons now alive to wit: William Thomas Cavalie r and Isaac andmy waring clothes likewise amongst the same. Fouthly I will that allthe money arising from the sail of such property and other surplusmoney if any is left is to be divided amongst my six daughters towit:Miriam Catron Esther Mary Sus anna and Vaney.
