Rev. George Hughes, the forebearer of our branch of the Hughes family, was among a group of settlers to the New World in 1646. George and his wife, Ann, had a plantation of 22 acres in York County, VA. In 1704 they owned 250 acres in James City, Berkley County.
George Hughes was one of three early Hughes immigrants to New Kent County, Virginia. There is no evidence they were relatives. They were:
