About George Inness, Jr.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Inness,_Jr.
George Inness, Jr. January 5, 1854 - July 27, 1926 was one of America’s foremost figure and landscape artists and the son of George Inness, an important American landscape painter.
He studied with his father and Léon Bonnat in the 1870s in Europe, where he was made an officer of the Académie des Beaux-Arts. Like his father, he was considered a member of the Barbizon School and resisted impressionism.
Later he returned to the United States and became known for his paintings of animals and illustration of hunting scenes. In 1899 he was elected to the National Academy of Design. He lived and worked in Boston, New York City and New Jersey and finally in Tarpon Springs, Florida where he produced most of his life's work. The Unitarian Universalist Church in Tarpon Springs contains a collection of eleven of his works.
Inness was married to the daughter of publisher Roswell Smith, who founded publishing house The Century Company. Smith's purchase of a large canvas painted by Inness of New Hampshire's Mount Washington helped launch Inness's financial success, which didn't come until middle age. Inness later purchased his home "Wentworth Manor" in Montclair, New Jersey, from his father-in-law Smith in 1889. His summer estate at Cragsmoor, New York, known as Chetolah, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Birth: Jan. 5, 1854 Death: Jul. 27, 1926
Artist. The son of George Inness, an important American landscape painter and Elizabeth Hart. Although George Jr. studied with Leon Bonnat in Paris, his foremost teacher and mentor was his father, with whom he studied in Rome and in Montclair, New Jersey. Like many sons of famous fathers, George Inness Jr.'s artist life was both a rebellion against and a continuation of his father's appreciation of beauty. He initially avoided using the mystic tonalist landscapes of George Sr. and became well known as a painter of cattle in the manner of Barbizon animal painter, Constant Troyon. Later he returned to the United States and became known for his paintings of animals and illustration of hunting scenes. In 1899 he was elected to the National Academy of Design. He lived and worked in Boston, New York City and New Jersey and finally in Tarpon Springs, Florida where he produced most of his life's work. The Unitarian Universalist Church in Tarpon Springs contains a collection of eleven of his works, several of which are murals painted directly to the walls of the church sanctuary. Not only did George Inness Jr. continue his father's appreciation of beauty , but he became one of the major sources of information on George Inness Sr., publishing a biography of his father and compiling an edition of his letters. George Inness Jr. was a member of the Salmagundi Club and the National Academy. He won a gold medal at the 1899 Paris Salon. His work is in the collection of the Oakland Museum, the Metropolitan Museum, the Nelson-Atkins Museum, the Farnsworth Art Museum, the New York State Historical Society, the Crocker Art Museum, the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, NY, and many others. He died in Cragsmoor, New York. (bio by: Shock)
