About George Washington Morgan
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=31363031&ref=wvr
"named thus because he was born during the War. George Washington was staying with the family at the time: he stood as a godfather.
George Washington Morgan's father, Gideon Morgan, was an architect, surveyor and civil engineer. While surveying in western New York, his home was at Saratoga. Gideon was owner of a tavern and traveler's rest in Saratoga and was visited here in 1788 by General George Wasington, Henry Knox and a French engineer; all on their way from New Windsor for Wethersfield to confer with General Rochambeau and lodged the night in the tavern of Gideon Morgan in New Preston (now Washington);in fact, on the very night that George Washington stayed under the Morgan roof, a son was born to Gideon and his wife Patience Cogswell, and in honor of the visit, this son was christened George Washington Morgan.
Let us hope that Patience' name served her well, as we can only imagine the attention due her and her new baby George, must have been diverted to their famous guests.
