Sir George Ramsay, 1st Lord Ramsay of Dalhousie was born after 1570.1 He was the son of James Ramsay of Cockpen and Elizabeth Ramsay.1 He married Margaret Douglas, daughter of Sir George Douglas, in 1593.1 He died before 22 July 1629.1

Sir George Ramsay, 1st Lord Ramsay of Dalhousie was invested as a Knight before 1603.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Kincardineshire [Scotland] in 1617.1 He was created 1st Lord Ramsay of Melrose [Scotland] on 25 August 1618.1 He was created 1st Lord Ramsay of Dalhousie [Scotland] on 5 January 1619, which he exchanged for his earlier 1618 Lordship.1
