George and his brother, John were butchers in Pittsburg 1775 - 1781 during the Revolutionary War. George and possibly John moved from Redstone, Fayette County, Pennsylvania to Ohio in 1800, about two years before Ohio became a state.

Naturally, the millers got acquainted, especially since they were of German and Lutheran stock; and after Tope's first wife died, he married Elizabeth Bower, the sister of Barnart, previously referred to; and she is buried in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery near Petersburg, (P.O. nmae Algonquin) by the side of her husband, both of whom lived to a ripe old age. M. Tope
