About George Uhrl, Medal of Honor

The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant George Uhrl (Uhri), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 30 June 1862, while serving with Light Battery F, 5th U.S. Artillery, in action at White Oak Swamp, Virginia. Sergeant Uhrl was one of a party of three who, under heavy fire of advancing enemy, voluntarily secured and saved from capture a field gun belonging to another battery, and which had been deserted by its officers and men.
