About George Alexander Wald
George Alexander Wald was born in Eau Claire,(he certainly was living there with his maternal grandparents in the 1880 census). His parents where likely Inger Andrine Evenson (also from Norway) and Carl/Charly Wahl/WOLD. As he reached adulthood he had moved to Hayward in Sawyer county, Wisconsin, where the family story is that he officially changed his name from WOLD to WALD....there where a number of WOLD's living in Hayward at the time and he wanted to differentiate himself from them.....His Evenson Grandfather, Uncle and at least one of his Aunts lived in Hayward as well in the time period of the 1890's or so...His first son (My wifes Grandfather) Walter Wald was born in Hayward......George was married to Sena Nilsson another Norwegian immigrant....
Around the turn of the century this family and eventually the Evenson relatives all relocated about 20 miles north to the village of Cable in Bayfield county Wisconsin, where many of the descendants still live. George and Sena had 6 Children, 4 males and 2 females....
I do not have an exact count of the descendants of George and Sena, but estimate it to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 75 to 100 persons in 4 generations... (From Dennis Bartholomew)
