About George Weeks

From Janice Weeks Hollenczer (4 March 2011): THIS GEORGE WEEKS ISN'T THE SON OF SYMON WEEKES. GEORGE WEEKES OF DORCHESTER IS NO RELATION AT ALL TO THE FRANCIS WEEKES b. ca 1621 (?), SON OF FRANCIS WEEKES b. 1590 AND WILMOT COFFIN, WHO WENT WITH ROGER WILLIAMS TO PROVIDENCE RI, AND THEN TO LONG ISLAND NY. I'M CURRENTLY CHECKING WEEKS MESSAGE BOARDS FOR THE INFO ON DNA TESTING SHOWING THESE TWO MEN WERE NOT RELATED.

Note: Came to America on May 18, 1640. Became a Freeman 13 May 1640 in Dorchester, Massachusetts.

The Descendants of George Weeks Book gives the inventory of his estate and lists his death date as December 28, 1650/51. The inventory was dated January 22, 1650/51.

He was still at his home in Salcombe Regis, Devon, England when he signed the inventory of his brother-in-law, William Clap, Jr., in October 1636. He was admitted as a freeman of Dorchester, Massachusetts, on the 13th of May 1640. Thus he came to America between these two dates.

Jane and George were married in England, probably about 1625. They most likely had at least three children when they arrived in America.

The will, dated September 6, 1636, of Jane's brother, William, Jr. left a bible to his sister's son, Thomas Weeks. Thus, Thomas was probably about ten years old at the time, which means he was born about 1626. Thus, the marriage of Jane and George was probably about 1625.
