"History of the Wm. P. Hubbell Family" part of type script by Marion Stephen Hubbel done November 1, 1908.

"..." See add'l information in William and Mary M. Willard.

"Grand father Willard (George Willard) was a sea captain before leaving Connecticut and followed a coasting trade business as far south as the West India Islands. He was also a ship builder and while at Evans, a little west from Buffalo, he, with his old boys, built small vessels for the lake Erie trade. he traded one of these vessels for an old French claim south of Monroe in Lasalle Township (Michigan) and came with a team from Evans via Sandusky and Fort Miami to Monroe in the autumn of 1828. The older boys came by water to Monroe and delivered the vessel for the land. This claims contained about three hundred acres. The family erected a log house on this at the south end near Muddy Creek. here William Willard Jr. died March 22, 1830, his father a year later and Samuel about two years after his father, he leaving a widow and one child. He married Eliza Hubbel of Miami village, Lucas County, Ohio, whose family was not related to ours only distantly, which relation could not be traced."

"Grandmother Willard afterward married Michael Cook, and finally died at the home of her daughter, Nancy Hilton, in Erie Township, Monroe County, Michigan, at an advanced age. George Willard married Elizabeth Rider of Sandusky, Ohio and settled on a farm near the south east corner of Ida Township, Monroe County. Phebe Willard married Thomas Palmerton and settled on a small farm adjoining the William P. Hubbel farm." ...
