SANFORD – Gerard A. Vachon, 67, of 27 Weymouth Street, died Thursday, March 19 at a Portland hospital after a brief illness.
He was born in Manchester, NH, a son of Alfred and Alvine Pare Vachon, and attended schools in Canada.
In 1947, Mr. Vachon Moved here.
He was employed at the former Seamloc Carpet Co. for 15 years. He then worked for the Town of Sanford in the Public Works Department as an assistant attendant at the transfer station. He retired in 1990.
He was a communicant of St. Ignatius Church and was a tyler of the Sanford Lodge of Elks. In 1989, he received the Elks of the Year Award.
He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and held the office of inside guard.
Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Irene M. Boutin Vachon; his mother of Thetford Mines, Quebec; two sons, Ronald of Springvale and Paul of Sanford; a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Diane) Angers of Springvale; four brothers, Roland, Jean-Marc and Gonzague, all of Thetford Mines, and Nelson of Drummond Ville, Québec; four sisters, Theresa Landry of Thetford Mines; Gervaise Fredette of Québec, Louise Parent of Montréal and Louisette Blais of Sherbrook, Québec; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral mass was celebrated Saturday, March 21 in St. Ignatius Church. Spring burial will be in St. Ignatius Cemetery. Arrangements were by LaFrance Funeral Home, Sanford.
