SANFORD – Irene M. Vachon, 68, of Holiday FL, formerly of Weymouth Street, Sanford, died December 14, 2002 at the Newton Center after a long illness.
She was born in Sanford on February 21, 1934, a daughter of Alfred and Eleana (Laurendeau) Boutin, and attended the former St. Ignatius School.
Mrs. Vachon was employed at the former Goodall-Sanford Textile Mills for several years until they closed in 1954. She later worked at the former Sprague Electric for 15 years and also at the former New England Mailings.
She has been living in Florida for the past seven years, where she was involved in the community. She was a communicant of St. Paul de Vincent Church in Holiday.
She loved to play beano and enjoyed crafts.
Her husband, Gerard A. Vachon, died in 1992.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Diane) Angers of Springvale; two sons, Ronald Vachon of Holiday, FL and Paul Vachon of Springvale; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11am on Friday, December 20 in Notre Dame Church in Springvale. Burial will be in the spring in St. Ignatius Cemetery. Arrangements are through the LaFrance-Lambert Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Newton Center Activity Fund, 20 July Street, Sanford, ME 04073.
