About Gerrit Van der Bijl

Translated from Die Myburghs van Suid-Afrika (1988), as father of Hester Anna van der Byl, who married Philip Albert Myburg:
Gerrit v.d. Byl/Bijl was the first male v.d. Byl born in South Africa. He was a leading citizen (burger) of Stellenbosch, 41 years old when he married the 16-year-old Elizabeth Grové, born at "Uitkyk", Klapmuts.
Hester was born at Vredenburg, Stellenbosch. Her father also owned Joostenberg and build the current dwelling there.
Hester's brother, Pieter Gerhard v.d. Byl, married Philip Myburg's sister, Sophia Margaretha Myburg.

?n Stellenbosse Geskiedenis, 1679-1849. Hans Heese
