Gerrit Jansz van Deventer

As “JS” correctly points out below, this person was not married to Rachel Joubert. She was actually married to his uncle, Gerrit Gerritsz, b8 or b9 depending on source. The 2 people called Gerrit were close in age, b8/9 baptised in 1713 and b1c4 (or b1c5) in 1719.

Like his uncle, there is confusion about his birth order and hence DVN. SAF 2018 has it as b1c5. SAF 2018 seems to rely heavily on J.C. van Deventer’s Die Van Deventer Familiekroniek.

It is said: “hy is voorouer v. die Caledonse Van Deventers”. Since there are no children on record for the Gerrit baptised in 1713, at least this statement may be true.
