About Gershon Gerhard Sorenson (Sorensohn)
Gershon was born Gerhard in Berlin, Germany, on the same day his father fell in WW 1.
Gershon started in March 1931at the age of 15 in a training for three years to work in a coat fabrication. He lived at that time with his mother (and supposely his brother Ari too) in Sybelstrasse 11, Berlin-Charlottenburg. He worked there until 30. Juni 1934 and left to Denmark.
He went to secret preparation farm in Herringlöse, Roskilde, Denmark, where he learned all about agriculture and settelments. He visited his mother Amalie at 20th January 1936, as a paper proves. This must have been the time, when they maybe already packed the household and left Germany.
Later in1936 he arrived to Palestine to Kibbutz Giv'at HaShlosha. There he worked as a guard on a horse (Noter and Gafir), his mares name was Gonika and he use to insist, that she was a beauty. At the Kibbutz he met Helga and they married 1938.
1939 they moved to Rishon LeZion.
He was active at the "Hagana" movement and volunteered to the Brithish army.
1940 he served as a sergeant in Tripolis, Tunis. He was injured at a bombing in Greece and was captive by the Germans (Helga had a watch that stopt at that exact time!). He was then brought to a hospital in Germany and later moved to a captivities camp in Satlang ?. 1945 after Germany was defeated, he was released and came back to Palestine through England.
He and Helga moved to Jerusalem where he studied photographie.
1948 he was drafted to the Hagana in Jerusalem and then later on IDF. He was released 1949 since he was acknowledged as a WW 2 veteran.
1952 they moved back to Rishon LeZion. Where he worked as an independent photographer, he later workd for IDA laboratry as a Photo technician.
1960 he started working at "Kodak" and was the CEO of "Delta Kodak" till his retirement.
After his retirement he volunteered at the Social security (Bituach Leumi) as an advisor to other elderly people.
His mother, Amalia, and brother, Ari, imigrated to the USA and therefor all three of them survived the holocaust.
