Helga Sorenson

Helga was born in Leipzig, Germany.

1936 she came with her cousin Yael on a ship with a wave of other young people to Palestine, they were all members of different youth movements (Aliyat HaNoar). She arrived at the youth village "Ben Shemen" and than moved to Kibbutz Giv'at HaShlosha. There she met Gershon Sorenson. They married 1939. They left the Kibbutz and moved to Rishon LeZion. 1942 she volunteered to the British army to the ATS (Auxiliry Teritorial Service) and served till 1945. After her dismission they moved to Jerusalem, Where she gave birth to Uri (1947) and Yair (1951). They lived in Jerusalem throughout the Independence War, and moved back to Rishon LeZion on 1952.

She workd as a private English teacher. After her retirement she volunteered at the pensioners organition "Tzavta" as an English teacher.

Helga lost her intire family in the Holocaust, she and her cousin, Yael are the only survivors.
