Anglo Boer War
Gert Kruger lived in Heidelberg and was a full burgher of the ZAR, he arrived in the ZAR in 1895, from the Cape Colony and took an oath of alliance at Volksrust in October 1899. He was taken POW (Prisoner of War) near Villiersdorp on 29th January 1902 and held at Umbilo Camp near Durban. An affidavit signed by him on 23/12/1902, requesting aid, as he lost all his furniture and cattle, stated that he was sent to India 'Gakool' and returned to South Africa, on 9/12/1903. This is possibly Kakul near Abbottabad in north-west India, what is now Pakistan (Kakool / Gakool). Also see POW record.
