Gertrude Elizabeth Tyler, eldest dau. of Gen. Daniel Tyler and Emily Lee, b. Feb. 16, 1836 at Farrandsville, Penn. She d. Apr. 26, 1896 at Turin, Italy.
On June 8, 1859 purportedly at Norwich, Conn., Gertrude m. Charles Carow, b. Oct. 4, 1825 at New York City, NY where he d. Mar. 17, 1883 (g.s.) While residents of Manhattan, they were next door neighbors of the Theodore Roosevelt, Sr. family that included young "Teddy" Roosevelt, Jr. Charles and Gertrude had three children:
• i. Robert Kermit Carow, b. Feb. 26, 1860 at New York City, but d. in infancy Aug. 25, 1860.
• ii. Edith Kermit Carow, b. Aug. 6, 1861 at Norwich, Conn., d. Sept. 30, 1948 at Oyster Bay, NY (g.s.); m. Dec. 2, 1886 at London, England as his 2nd wife, Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt, Jr. (26th Pres. of the U.S.), s. of Theodore Roosevelt and Martha Stewart "Mittie" Bulloch, b. Oct. 27, 1858 at New York City, NY. He d. Jan. 6, 1919 at Oyster Bay, NY (g.s.) Five children of the marriage. Teddy had one child by his 1st wife, Alice Hathaway Lee, dau. Alice Lee Roosevelt, who never married and was a well-known Washington, D.C. socialite.
