Oud Maldeghem…
Philip VIII of Maldeghem also left no lasting memories in history. Like most of his forebears, he fell victim to the native tumults and saw his property fall prey to the wrath of the rebellious people, revolting against Duke Philip the Good and his supporters.
Since he had no children from his first marriage with Isabella van Roye, he entered into a second marriage before 1439 with Geertrui van Rijmerswalle, eldest daughter of Nicolaas-Kervin van Rijmerswalle, knight, lord of Lodik, Nieustarie, Ierseke and Hierzekerdamme. , in ter Goed (Zeeland), and of Geertrui van Gaver, wife of Rozendale. That second wife bore him one son and three daughters: namely, Philip IX of Maldeghem, to be discussed
further; Gertrude, died young; Margareta, wife of Moerzeke, Rode and Machelen-bij-Vilvoorde, married for the second time to Francesco Cavalcanti; and Maria, said van Reezinge, died in Maldegem on October 20, 1493. Their father - Philip VIII - died about the year 1445 and his widow remarried in 1449 with Philip van Montmorency (Ibidem).

From Maldeghem la Loyale…cont.

1° Filips IX, die hierna ter sprake komt;
2° Gertrude van Maldeghem, jong gestorven;

English translation by DeepL: Philip VIII entered into a second marriage before 1439 with Gertrude of Reimerswaal, elder daughter of Nikolaas Kervinc of Reimerswaal, knight, lord of Lodijk, Nieustarie, Yerseke and Yersekerdamme, church villages near Goes in Zeeland, and of his fourth wife Gertrude of Gavere, lady of Rozendaal, daughter of Arnold of Gavere, lord of Ressegem, Liedekerke and Lens, and of Margareta of Boutersem.
This lord of Maldegem died about 1445; his widow remarried Philippe de Montmorency in 1445. The children of her first marriage were then very young; later several lawsuits were filed between her eldest son Philip of Maldeghem and his stepfather, the lord of Montmorency.
The children of Philip VIII of Maldeghem and his second wife Gertrude of Reimerswaal were:

1° Philip IX, who will be discussed below;
2° Gertrude of Maldeghem, who died young;
3° Margareta of Maldeghem, lady of Moerzeke, Rode and Machelen Saint-Gertrudis in Brabant. A charter from 1
459 with an enumeration of borrows, shows that she was then unmarried. The name of her first husband is not known to us; her second husband's name was Francesco Cavalcanti, son of Casino, a Florentine nobleman. On December 24, 1483, she and her husband agreed against their will to the disinheritance and alienation of the seigniory of Maldegem which her brother ordered to proceed two days later. For this they received 100 pounds groats cash and each an annuity of 80 pounds groats. On Jan. 31, 1484, she and her husband appeared before the bailiff and the feudal men of the Burg of Bruges for the dissolution of three lendings thereof, namely ten Torre and two others of 4 pounds parisis each, mortgaged on the great toll rights at Bruges. From regret and sorrow for the loss of ancestral heritage, she died before March 14, 1484, leaving no children. On July 28, 1484, before the mayor and aldermen of the Free, the division of her estate took place between the surviving husband Francesco Cavalcanti on the one hand and Karel van Halewijn, lord of Uitkerke, and Jan van Hoogheweghe, both guardians of Maria van Maldeghem, sole heiress of Margareta, on the other. Francesco Cavalcanti died on April 27, 1506 and was buried in the Church of Our Lady in Bruges, in the wreath chapel behind the high altar, where his portrait could still be seen in the 17th century.
4° Maria van Maldeghem, all her life called van Reesinghe after the old lordship and family estate, outlived her brother and sister, but as a feeble-minded person with behavioral disorders she was all the while under
