Cavour is a historical and artistic town. It is a vast plain where the Pellice River flows into
According to popular tradition its name derives from "caburna", namely "hut", according to others the meaning would be 'placed above an eminent figure's ground' or 'near a mountain', others connect it with Celtic population of Roman caburni.
Cavour occupied a strategic position as a natural bulwark against the French.
It was much later a Roman setting, feud of Count IV Amedeo of Savoy. In the Middle Ages, Cavour was involved in the clashes between the House of Savoy, the Marquis of Saluzzo and those of Monferrato.
In 1648 it was given as a feud to Michele Antonio Benso, ancient and powerful family chierese whose descendant was the illustrious statesman Count Camillo Benso di Cavour
Cavour preserves valuable artistic testimonies including 'Santa Maria's Abbey, the parish church of 'San Lorenzo', 'Santa Croce's Church and one dedicated to the holy names of Jesus' and Santa Maria.
The major attractiveness of Cavour is actually 'Rocca', a mass of granite rock, which dominates the plain. The surrounding area was made known as a natural park.
