About Gilbert Johnston
Notes for 3rd Of That Ilk Gilbert De Johnston:
In his father's lifetime, Gilbert was designed by the title of Ballindallach.
He got a lease from Henry, Bishop of Aberdeen, Gilberto de Johnston, &c. totam villiam de Bischape, Clyntre, &c. for all the days of his life, for the payment of a merk Scots yearly, dated 10th November 1430.
He married, 1st, Elizabeth Vaus, daughter of the laird of Meny, by whom he had a son, Alexander, his heir and three daughters.
He married, 2dly, a daughter of Sir Alexander Forbes, second Baron of Pitsligo, (omitted in the Peerage, page 557.) by whom he had a son, William, who got from his father the lands of Ballindallach; the superiority whereof was retained in the family. William married and had issure. (Laird of Crimond.)
Gilbert was succeeded by his eldest son Alexander.
