Gilbert was born in 1889. He passed away in 1973.
he was a twin to Florence Annie mcminn (floss) and they were brought up in Castlemaine. he and his wife Selina (nell) lived at Marjory St, Yarraville.He was employed by Victorian Railways for 33 years as a blacksmiths striker and after as a fitter during the war. When he retired from the railways he became a clerical officer at commonwealth aircraft Corp at Fishermans bend until he was 74. He was a keen bowls player and loved growing dahlias. He was a freemason for 33 years. After his wifes death he shifted to Pascoe Vale to be near his son. When he became unwell he lived at the freemasons homes in Prahran until he died at the Alfred hospital aged 83.

He married Selina Jane Keane in 1914, in Footscray, Victoria, Australia. They were the parents of at least 1 son. He died in 1973, in Prahran, Victoria, Australia, at the age of 83.
