About Grace Imogene Hill

Grace Imogene Symington,
daughter of Orpha and Samuel
Symington, was born June 11,
1855, at Dickens, Iowa. She moved
to Spencer with her parents in
1898.

After graduating from Spencer
high school, she attended Iowa
State Teachers College at Cedar
falls. She taught school at Britt
before she was married to Rodney
Hill on March 21, 1911, at
Spencer. They became the parents
of two daughters, Marian
Louise, Mrs Russell Hoffman, and
Arlene Ethel, Mrs Gale Johnson.

The couple lived at Monroe,
Nebr. from 1911 to 1915: at Parker,
S D. from 1915 until 1925,
when they came to Storm Lake
and resided here until they moved
to Sioux City in 1944.

Mrs. Hill was active in civic, religious
and social activities
wherever she resided. Many in
the Sioux City and Storm Lake
areas enjoyed her spiritual readings.
She was a member of the Order
of Eastern Star, a past matron of
the Chapter HZ, P. E. O. Sisterhood
of Sioux City, and the First
Congregational church of Sioux
City.

On March 11, 1961, they were
privileged to celebrate their golden
wedding anniversary at an open
house in Storm Lake with their
daughters as hostesses. Many
of their friends called and shared
the happy occasion with them.

She had enjoyed good health
throughout her lifetime but on
July 5 of the past summer she
suffered a broken leg which may
have hastened her passing. On
Saturday, Dec. 18, she was suddenly
stricken with chest pains
and was pronounced dead on arrival
at the Methodist hospital.
Survivors include the widower,
two daughters, Mrs. Hoffman of
Storm Lake and Mrs. Johnson of
Minnetonka, Minn., five grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren
and a host of friends.
Her parents, two brothers and
a sister preceded her in death.
