GEDCOM Note
Registration Town: The Przemysl PSA Marriage record lists his "town" as Aleksandriya/Radomysl, suggesting that he was later able to change it from Aleksandriya to Radomysl. Which town he was actually born in is unclear, as he may have been born in Radomyshl but, since his father's registration town was Aleksandriya, he may have been registered there. According to the Vienna Residence Cards, he was born in Radomysl and was later cited as living in Aleksandriya (Russia), Hodrov (Poland) and in Chadarov (Poland).
It is likely that Gur arye lived at various times in Radomysl and Bolechow. (Bolechow was the location of his wife's family.)
Gur arye moved to Bolochow after marrying Taube because her father was the Rabbi there and he was also apparently quite wealthy. Gur Arye developed business interests locally while living there and became known as the the Bolochover Rov. [source: Esriel Sternbuch, his 2nd great nephew]
Gur arye eventually moved back to Radomysl with Taube, as it was the "home town" of the Hor[en]nstein family. [Source: Harry Sapir]
1889: He and his wife are listed in the Bolechow Marriage Register, even though they had children in 1875 or earlier. Thus it is likely that he was married by a rabbi about 1874 and registered the marriage in the Bolechow civil records in 1889.
1897: Listed in Radomysl. [Heads of Jewish families, Kiev Oblast Archive (DAKO) Collection 384, The Russian Population Census of 1897]
1902: Listed as owner of a tannery in Radomysl and Kiev Member of the 1st Guild. [All-Russia Industrial Trade Directory for 1902]
1907: Listed in Radomysl. [Kiev Gubernia Duma Voters List]
1908: Listed in Radomysl. [member, Kiev First Merchants' Guild]
1911: Listed as operating a paper mill in Berdychiv [All Vsia Rossia]. This mill was started by the Trachtenberg family of Berdychiv. [Source: Harry Sapir]
1913: Business directory of Radomysl [Radomysl Business directory; excerpted from the ALL SOUTH-WESTERN REGION. Gazetteer and Address Book of Kiev, Podolia and Volhyn Gubernias] listed 3 tannery owners: Chaim Konfer [son of] Shmuel, Shmarya Konfer [son of] Chaim, and Gur arye Horenstein [son of] Naftuly.
Gur arye also owned a [beet] sugar factory. [Source: Harry Sapir]
