Guy-François de Coëtnempren, comte de Kersaint (1703-1759): French naval officer, the son of Jacquesand Yvonne Catherine de Pentrez. 1742 married Jeanne Armande Marguerite Eustache de l’Écluse in Le Havre. 1703 appointed comte de Kersaint; 1721-1722 Garde de la Marine; 1723 served on the Griffon (48) as a garde; 1731 ships ensign; 1731-1738 served on the Vénus as ships lieutenant; 1741-1742 served as ships lieutenant and commanding officer on the Naiade (10); 1742 named a chevalier de Saint-Louis; 1744 ships lieutenant and commanding officer of the Méduse (16); 1745-1747 ships lieutenant and commanding officer of the Renommée (30); 1746-1747 ships captain; January 1747 captain and commanding officer of the Alcide, seeing action in March at 1st Battle of Cape Finisterre, and in the Bay of Biscay in June; 1748-1750 captain and commanding officer of the Alcide (64); 1751-1752 captain and commanding officer of the Illustre (64); 1756 Ched d’Escadre, captain and commanding officer of the Intrépide (74), in October leading the French in the Battle of Cap-Français (Forrest’s Action); 1759 captain and commanding officer of the Thésée (74) at the battle of Quiberon Bay.
