Kasson Woman Succumbs Here to Poliomyelitis
Mrs. Allen Scharberg Dies at St. Mary's; New Cases Reported
Two polio deaths and two new non-resident cases are included in today's polio report from the public health department. The victims were Mrs. Allen Scharberg, 22-year-old Kasson area resident, and Fordyce Warner, 41, Darfur, Minn. Mrs. Scharberg had entered St. Mary's hospital here this week and died of the disease yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Allen Scharberg, the former Gwendolyn Stevens, was born October 2, 1930, at Hayfield. She attended Hayfield schools and was a graduate of Hayfield high school. She was married to Mr. Scharberg March 19, 1949. Survivors include her husband and two sons, Robert and James, at home; her mother, Mrs. Bennie Stevens of Hayfield; one sister, Mrs. Thomas Kyles of Tulsa, Okla.; two brothers, LaVerne and Merlin, both of Hayfield, and her grandfather, Andrew Stevens of Hayfield. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at West St. Olaf church, Rev. D.J. Borge will officiate at the rites, and burial will be in the church cemetery. The season's polio tally stands at 115 cases in Rochester and 83 cases in the rest of Olmested county. Also, 257 out-of-county polio patients have been brought here for treatment.
