About Gwenllian verch Rhys
The medieval sources are highly confusing as to whether there are other daughters of Rhys named Gwenllian. This one, the daughter of his wife, we are sure of; she married Ednyfed Fychan. One of Rhys's daughters was a mistress of Rhodri ap Owain Gwenydd. Some sources say it was Gwenllian, and that she was married to Rhodri first, but she was too young for that connection. The source which calls the mistress of Rhodri "Annes," one of Rhys's illegitimate daughters, makes chronological sense. There is no evidence of a second daughter of Rhys's named Gwenllian.
Please contact the curator if you find source evidence to the contrary.
