It is unclear where Hannah Bundi (or Bundy or Bunday) was born or who her parents were.

Some say that the Bundi family was originally from Italy based on the 1882 obit and 1880 census record of son David Voyle plus an 1876 "old settler" newspaper article about him. Some say her father was Jacob Bundi but I have found no trace of him. William Voyles spent time in South Carolina, including in Charleston, a major port into which the Bundi family may came come. Perhaps they met there but this is a guess.

Although it seems unlikely to me, some say she was the daughter of William Bundy 1723-1758 (probate for a William Bundy in 1759 without daughter mentioned) or a different William Bundy who died in 1770. A William "Bunday," son of John "Bunday," was born in 1723 in Pasquotank Co NC per the Quaker records. A contributor pointed out that Pasquotank Co NC is over 300 miles from Cabarrus County.

Quaker records in Pasquotank Co NC show that William Bundy married Elizabeth Cartwright 4 Oct 1744 and then Hannah Morris 1 Nov 1750 which would imply that Elizabeth was then dead. Assuming William Bundy of Pasquotank Co NC was Hannah's father, this would imply her mother was Elizabeth Cartwright.

It is sometimes reported that her mother was Mary Groves Guy 1722-1751. I don't know the basis for this. There is a marriage listed between a William Bundy and Mary Groves in 1741 in Fawley, Hampshire, England, but they are unlikely to be her parents unless they immigrated to NC after their marriage. This would seem to preclude the Pasquotank County Bundy connection.

What is clear is that there are theories and opinions about her origins but no proof beyond the reporting of one son.

I have not found her in the record before the registration of the births of some of her children.

"Hannah Rhodesia Bundi" comes from the birth records of three Voyles children: Daniel in 1792, Hannah in 1795, and Mary in 1797. See below. Mary was actually her granddaughter.
She married William Voyles/Voils c.1772, reportedly in Cabarrus County, NC, which was then Mecklenburg County. This may be based on the birth date of their first child because no marriage record has been found. They had at least 11 children:

Joseph 1773-1790 (likely buried here)
Rachel 1775-1842, married Joseph Fulk
Rolin 1778-1833
Andrew 1780-1790 (likely buried here)
Thomas 1782-1861
Able 1785-1866
David 1787-1882
Moses 1790-1840
Daniel 1792 -1867
John 1794-1855 (died in Jackson County, GA)
Hannah 1795-1821, married Silas Townsend

Some have said that Mary Voyles 1797-1865 (FAG #20806062) was another daughter but court records show that she was the illegitimate daughter of Rachel Voyles and Stephen Hadley in spite of her having been listed as William and Hannah's child, a common ploy. Rachel was awarded child support. Mary married William Townsend.

According to a 1983 profile by Ervin D. Voyles, "it has been reported in family history that Hannah died about 1807 (more likely 1805) from a black wasp sting in the head (or in the ear). She was pulling bark from a dead tree to kindle the fire under her blue dye coloring pot."

She was buried on the family farm in Cabarrus Co, NC with a 20th century memorial marker at the family church.

Ervin D. Voyles also wrote: "Their children remained on the remaining land of the 235 acres raising cotton for a while. Some of the younger children were not satisfied and petitioned the court to divide the land among them. This did not help matter, and conditions grew worse. They all became destitute and decided to leave North Carolina and went to Indiana." Some of the elder children had already moved through Kentucky to Indiana.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Apr 9 2023, 17:52:52 UTC
