About Hannah Wilder

Hannah Payne, dau. of Thomas Payne, was born in Bar Harbor, Hancock Co., Maine on Apr. 12, 1790. She married in 1808 at Eastham, Barnstable Co., Massachusetts with ABEL WILDER, son of Daniel Wilder and Mary Gould. He was born 1786 in Bolton, Worcester Co., Massachusetts. Abel moved his new bride to Chittendon County, Vermont. He was a farmer and a carpenter. In the summer of 1816 they moved, with their then 5 children to a farmland two miles outide of Malone in Franklin Co., New York where he built a family home and made most of the furniture within its walls. Five more children would be born at that farm to Abel and Hannah. They had a total of 10 children, six sons and four daughters.

Children were: Royal Gould (2/1809-1815), Thomas P. (4/4/1811), James Mason (6/25/1813), Hannah P. (11/13/1814), Royal Gould (2/28/1816; m. Eliza J. Smith), Polly Maria (3/4/1821), Phebe Elmira (7/16/1824), William Clement (4/24/1826), Sarah Charlotte (2/15/1830), and Josiah Prince (1/9/1832).

Hannah was a daughter of Thomas Payne. She married Abel Wilder, the youngest of eleven children born to Daniel Wilder and Mary Gould. Their wedding took place in 1808 in Eastham (Barnstable County), Massachusetts. Abel was a well known carpenter and also a farmer. Shortly after their marriage, Abel his new bride to a farm he had bought near Milton (Chittenden County), Vermont. They had five children born in Vermont. During the summer of 1816 Abel took his family to a larger farm he had bought just two miles outside of the town of Malone in Franklin County, New York. Abel built the family a home and much of the furniture inside. Five more children were born in the farmhouse in New York; for a total of ten children born to Abel and Hannah. Note: Grandmother of Almanzo Wilder (husband of Laura Ingalls Wilder who wrote the Little House books).
