About Hans Jacob Staeli

Hans Jacob Staehli STALEY is the son of Jacob Staehli STALEY and his wife Anna BRUELLMANN of Amriswil, Thurgau, Switzerland.

Hans Jacob Staehli STALEY age seventeen married Susanna RUTERSHAUSER age sixteen on 1697 in Amriswil, Thurgau, Switzerland.

They most likely escaped Switzerland down the Rhine River valley region of Germany to Binsdorf, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany due to religious persecution inspired to follow the Protestant Reformation.

In 1517, Martin Luther had changed the course of human history when he nailed his 95 Theses to the church door at Wittenberg, Germany accusing the Roman Catholic church of heresy upon heresy. Martin Luther (November 10, 1483 - February 18, 1546) was a Christian theologian and Augustinian monk whose teachings inspired the Protestant Reformation and deeply influenced the doctrines of Protestant and other Christian traditions. Martin Luther was born to Hans and Margaretha Luder on 10 November 1483 in Eisleben, Germany and was baptized the next day on the feast of St. Martin of Tours, after whom he was named. Martin Luther’s call to the Church to return to the teachings of the Bible resulted in the formation of new traditions within Christianity and the Counter-Reformation in the Roman Catholic Church, culminating at the Council of Trent.

The two known children of Hans Jacob Staehli STALEY and his wife Susanna RUTERSHAUSER are:

  1. Ulrich Johannes Jacob Staehli STALEY, b. 1700 Switzerland; m. 1724 Switzerland; e. 1732 PA USA; d. 1766 PA USA
  2. Joseph Staehli STALEY, b. 1716 Germany; m. 1733 PA; e. 1732 PA USA; d. 1767 NC USA

His wife Susanna RUTERSHAUSER age 46 died on 27 Oct 1727 in Binsdorf, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. After her death Joseph immigrated to England and then to America. It is believed Joseph Staehli STALEY a widower was an immigrant to America in 1732 to the port of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania along with the families of his two children and grandchildren. Burial of Joseph Staehli STALEY in 1743 is in an undiscovered cemetery in York, York County, Pennsylvania.

Note: Most Likely an undiscovered cemetery in York, York County, Pennsylvania.
