Dr. Hans Kierstead married Sara Roeloff in the Fort, N.Y.C. on June 29, 1642. Sara was born in New Amsterdam and was baptized in 1634. They had 8 -10 children.

Hans Kierstead came to NYC in 1638 with Gov. Kieft in the service of the West India Company. He was the first physician and surgeon to settle in NYC. They lived on Pearl Street (corner of Pearl and Whitehall) which was then on the waterfront of the East River.

Sara later married Cornelius Van Boesum and had a third marriage with Elbert Elbertson.

Doctor Hans Kierstede, of Magdeburg, who married, June 29, 1642, Sarah Roelofs, a daughter of Jans Roelofs by his marriage to the celebrated heiress, Anneka Jans.

A surgeon. From Maegdenburg, Prussian Saxony, perhaps a refugee of that place after it was sacked by Tilly in 1630. He came to New Netherlands in 1638, with Director General Kieft in the service of the West India Co. He was the first physician and surgeon in New Amsterdam. His brother Jochem Kierstede perished in the wreck of "The Princess" off the coast of Wales, along with Kieft and Dom. Bogardus. He appears in the early Dutch records on 1 May 1638; on 28 Aug1648 he is spoken of as "late in the service of the W.I. Co." He was alive when his last child was baptized on 13 Sep 1665 and on 17 Jul 1667 he is spoken of on a deed as "being then dead."

Suggested edit: Jochem Kierstede is missing as one of his children. Jochem went to Maryland and I’m not sure who he married but his daughter is Joshan Kierstede who married a Thomas Manning . Hans Kierstede would be my 9th great grandfather.
