About Hans Meyer Zwi Kroch
In 1922, Hans Kroch joined his father’s banking business and subsequently became the owner of the private bank Kroch jr. KG. In 1928, he had the first tower block built in Leipzig on Augustusplatz. He also financed the construction of the housing complex nowadays known as the Kroch Estate in Neu-Gohlis. In 1938, Kroch was arrested and deported to Buchenwald concentration camp. He was released in 1939 in return for relinquishing his bank’s assets and emigrated to Israel.
Hans Kroch was the owner of the Holyland Hotel. In memory of his son Jacob, who fell in Israel's War of Independence, he had the model of Jerusalem in the Second Temple Period, a Jerusalem cultural landmark, built. It opened on the grounds of the hotel in 1966. In 2006 it was transferred to the Israel Museum campus.
