Hans Michael Rinehart, II
Birth: 1738 Augusta County Virginia, USA Death: May 29, 1783 Woodstock Shenandoah County Virginia, USA
Hans Michael Rinehart II aka Michael Rinehart was born 1738 Augusta Co., Virginia and died 29 May 1783 Shenandoah Co., Virginia. But over time the county lines changed into making additional counties in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
He married Elizabeth(Van Hooser?) circa 1765 Augusta Co., Virginia. She was born circa 1740-1745 Augusta Co., Virginia and died 1826 Monticello, Wayne Co., Kentucky. She married (2) Jacob Van Hooser and they moved to Wayne Co., Kentucky.
On 29 May 1783 in Shenandoah County Court an Inventory was made of the Estate of Michael Rinehart II. Since he didn’t make any Last Will and Testament there was an Administrator appointed by the court to settle his estate. At his death he owned 340 acres of land to which his widow, Elizabeth Rinehart was entitled to 100 acres as part of her Dower rights. The other 240 acres of land were to be sold and the proceeds divided among his remaining heirs.
Michael Rinehart served as a Private in Captain/Major Michael Reeder’s Company Dunmore (Shenandoah) County Militia 1775-1776. Michael Rinehart marched with the company to Winchester and joined the troops of Captains Reddicken, Pauling, Nighswanger, and Buck, each with a company of men. They marched to Fort Pitt at the head of the Ohio River. Gen. Hand at Fort Pitt took charge and after remaining at Fort Pitt about a month or six weeks they were ordered to Wheeling fort on the banks of Ohio River about one hundred miles below Fort Pitt. They went by water and there served the balance of their tour, which was for three months. Col. Zane was at Wheeling. There were regular soldiers at Fort Pitt and he saw Col. Steele and Col. Gibson.
Having completed there tour Michael Rinehart returned to Shenandoah Co. Virginia. About 1 May 1778 he marched to Fort Pitt a second time, having under his command two companies of Captains John Rouse and Abraham Byrd. After arriving at Fort Pitt he was ordered to Carnes Fort on Deckard's Creek about six miles from Morgantown.
