Johann Hans Peter Wampfler left for America, May 03, 1741 and immigrated to America with his family on the ship "Lydia", landing at Philadelphia on September 29, 1741. He settled his family on 200 acres of land he purchased in the Swiss and German community in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The Wampler family seems to have "appeared" in the 1500's in Zwischefluh, Switzerland, and to have taken their surname from a tiny village there called Wampflen. The earliest church records for them date from 1559. (from the book "A Genealogical History of Jews and Muslims in British Colonial America")
