About Harden Bennion
Harden Bennion, 74, of West Third North Street, Secretary of State under Governor Simon Bamberger and former State Senator and Commissioner Missioner of agriculture died Monday morning in a local hospital after a long illness. Mr. Bennion was born October 7, 1862, in Taylorsville, a son of John and Esther Ann Birch Bennion. He celebrated his seventy fourth birthday Wednesday and entered the hospital Friday. As secretary of state he was active in promotion of legislation requiring bonding and licensing of all commission men operating in Utah. Licensing of truckers and of all persons slaughtering livestock for sale. A prominent rancher and merchant of eastern Utah. He served as state senator from Uintah county for eight years he was manager of the ashley co coop in Vernal for a number of years in 1909. He was appointed by Governor Spry to the state board of equalization he resigned this position to become chairman of the he board of commissioners on revenue and taxation. Mr. Bennion served as secretary of state from 1916 to 1920. He was a democrat his services to the state also included eight years as commissioner of agriculture he received his education in Salt Lake City schools and was a graduate of the University of Utah. Surviving are three daughters: Miss Aurelia Bennion, Miss Florence Bennion and Miss Bernice Bennion all of Salt Lake City. Five brothers: Dr. Milton Bennion, dean of the university school of education, Israel Bennion, Vernon Owen Bennion, Mt. Emmons, David Bennion, Afton, Wyo and Archie Bennion, Granger, two sisters: Mrs. John Chase, Nephi, and Mrs, John M Cannon, Salt Lake City.
