HARDY HINTON, eldest son of John Hinton and Mary Hardy, was born in Chowan (Gates) County, North Carolina, about 1714 [he was not yet 18 in 1730 when father wrote his will].

In 1732 his father died leaving him 200 acres: "my plantation by the Honey pott swamp with two hundred acres of Land more or less and Joyning to it begining at siperous stump where I formerly gott boards and runing thence a cross to ffrancis pugh's rode and then A Long the rode to the head Line and then to the first station.” & 1/4 of carpenters, coopers and shoemaker tools.

About 1734 he married MARY ___ [named in his will]. Date based on estimated birth dates of children.

In 1739 he sold his land to Henry Guston[1] and may have lived awhile in Edgecombe County [tax records confusing] before moving.

About 1743 he moved with his brothers to the wilderness region of Craven County, that area soon set off as Johnston County. It took a few years to find, survey and apply for land.
