HARDY HINTON, eldest son of John Hinton and Mary Hardy, was born in Chowan (Gates) County, North Carolina, about 1714 [he was not yet 18 in 1730 when father wrote his will].
In 1732 his father died leaving him 200 acres: "my plantation by the Honey pott swamp with two hundred acres of Land more or less and Joyning to it begining at siperous stump where I formerly gott boards and runing thence a cross to ffrancis pugh's rode and then A Long the rode to the head Line and then to the first station.” & 1/4 of carpenters, coopers and shoemaker tools.
About 1734 he married MARY ___ [named in his will]. Date based on estimated birth dates of children.
In 1739 he sold his land to Henry Guston[1] and may have lived awhile in Edgecombe County [tax records confusing] before moving.
About 1743 he moved with his brothers to the wilderness region of Craven County, that area soon set off as Johnston County. It took a few years to find, survey and apply for land.
In April 20, 1745, he received a patented for 300 acres along the Neuse River on the north [east] side.[2]
He died in 1760. His will, sighed and dated August 18, 1760, was proved Oct 1760 Crt.[3] [4]

Hardy was born in Nansemond County, Virginia. Nansemond is an extinct locality that was located in Virginia Colony and the Commonwealth of Virginia (after statehood) in the United States, from 1646 until 1974. It was Nansemond County until 1972, and the independent city of Nansemond from 1972 to 1974. Suffolk was formed in 1974 after consolidating with Nansemond County and the towns of Holland and Whaleyville.
