The Allied Meuse Argonne Offensive The Meuse Argonne Offensive (26th September - 11th November 1918) was an Allied offensive with the aim of pushing the German Armies further east from their positions at the Hindenburg Line, cutting the Germans off from their important rail routes supplying their front line sectors. The Allied attack comprised a total of 37 French and US divisions opposing 24 German divisions. There were three fortified German lines, two of which were breached by 5th October. Another assault was started up again on 14th October by the First and Second US Armies but they suffered heavy casualties without making progress. Once again on 1st November the Allied offensive started up and the third German defensive line was breached. As the advance progressed northwards the towns of M'e9zi'e8res, Charleville and Sedan were recaptured.
