1915-16 Owned a Bicycle Shop in Brooklyn NY (picture of Harry Jr in front) as well as working as cutting/setting gems in jewelryT(iffany's )
1927 Harry Sr. married Edith Lilllian Ross and moved himself and Harry Jr into her house on South Main Street Keyport NJ. A small house which is now the parking lot of Bethany Manor. Her son from her first marriage Cyrus and Harry Jr slept in a shed attached to the back of the house. Harry Sr was commuting to NYC to work in Tiffany's as a jewelery setter. He also dabbled in engraving and casting of decorative pieces-Jennie Lind candlestick holders.
The Family then moved to a farm in Holmdel, NJ - 92 acres on Beers Road. to raise chickens. He sent Harry Jr and Cyrus to Rutgers agriculture college for animal husbandry. They lost the farm in the depression of 1929 and moved to a house on Holmdel Road which is now part of the Garden State Parkway.
1940 Mrs Ross (as Harry Hughson Jr called all women relatives -Mrs. Ross his mother: Mrs Quackenbush -his mother in law) called and said that Harry Sr was very sick and needed to go to the hospital. Harry Jr and Marguerite took him to Monmouth Medical Center in Rev Harold Green's Cadillac. Harold Green was the pastor of the Dutch Reformed Church in Keyport NJ and also a close friend of Harry & Marguerite. Harry Sr was diagnosed with pimple on his nose. The infection had spread to his sinuses and then his brain before he died.
