OLLEYVILLE — Harry J. Sands III, 52, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999, at a Dallas hospital. He died peacefully in his sleep after a courageous battle with cancer.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at White's Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake. Burial: later at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo.
Memorials: White's Chapel United Methodist Church, 185 S. White Chapel Blvd., Southlake, Texas 76092, in lieu of flowers.
Harry J. Sands III was born Jan. 29, 1947, in Dayton, Ohio. He was the son of Lelah and the late Maj. Gen. Harry J. Sands II. He was a 1970 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and served most of his 20 years in the Air Force as an F-15 fighter pilot. His tours of duty included Moody Air Force Base, Ga.; Bergstrom AFB, Texas; Osan, Korea; Ca.; Holloman AFB, N.M.; Luke AFB, Ariz.; NATO Forces, Italy; and Okinawa, Japan. Following retirement in 1990, he flew as a commercial pilot for Delta Air Lines. He was a faithful husband of 26 years and a devoted and loving father of two sons, a member of White's Chapel United Methodist Church and an avid golfer and outdoorsman.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Lee Sands, and his father.

Survivors: Wife, Nancy Lanier Sands; sons, Michael Lee Sands and Steven Lanier Sands; mother, Lelah Sands; brothers, Patrick and Ray Sands; and many other extended loving family members and friends.
