LELAH SANDS MELBOURNE Lelah Lee Adeline Sands, age 89, of Melbourne, FL, passed away at St Josephs Hospital, Park Rapids, MN, on Saturday, September 16, 2006. She left this earthly life to joyously re ceive eternal life with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born to Olaf and Clara Greene on May 6, 1917, in the small farming town of Newfolden, Minnesota. After graduating from Newfolden High School, she completed her nurses training at Northwestern Medical in Minneapolis. She was a World War II vet eran as an Army Air Corps post- surgical nurse in the South Pa cific. It was there that she met Colonel Harry J. Bud Sands Jr., an Air Force fighter pilot. They were married on January 4, 1946. They were blessed with four sons, all of which became commissioned Air Force offi cers. They retired to Melbourne, Florida in 1968. Lee was a founding member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, a long-time member of the choir and very active in many other church ministries. She will be missed greatly by her two sons and three daugh ters-in-law, Patrick (Dee) of Seffner, FL, Raymond (Marlene) of Altamonte Springs, FL and Nancy Sands Hurst of Naples, FL; three sisters, Avis Greene of Minneapolis, MN, Phyllis (Robert) Anderson of Apopka, FL and Lois (Lowell) Anderson of Park Rapids, MN; six grand children: Michael, Steven, Chris, Wendee, Whitney, and Mason; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Major General Harry J. Sands, Jr.; sons, Harry Sands III and Michael Lee Sands; and sister, Joan Wright. AMemorial Service will be held at St Timothy Lutheran Church, 1903 Croton Road, Melbourne, on Tuesday, September 26th, at 1 p.m. A luncheon will follow the service. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St.Timothy Lutheran Church.
