Harry Schon, 88, Minot and formerly of the Mercer, North Dakota area died on Thursday, March 13, 2008 in a Minot, North Dakota hospital. Burial will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, North Dakota

Harry was born on July 9, 1919 on a farm near Mercer, North Dakota to William and Katherine (Fiesel) Schon.

He was raised on a farm near Mercer, North Dakota and attended Country Consolidated School and Turtle Lake High School.

He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1937 and was stationed at Camp #159 near Priest River Idaho. He entered the US Navy in 1944 and received his honorable discharge later that year. Following his discharge, he resided in Bismarck, North Dakota where he was employed at Corwin Churchill Motors. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Fargo where he was employed by the same dealership.

While residing in Fargo, North Dakota, he met Helen J. Hagen and they were married on June 8, 1947 in Minot, North Dakota. They resided in Fargo, North Dakota for a short time before moving to Minot, North Dakota where Harry was employed as the parts department manager for Parker Motor Company. Later, he was employed in a similar capacity at Nielson-Stewart GMC, Blesener Olds and Jim Ryan Chevrolet dealerships in Minot, North Dakota. He retired in 1982.

Harry was a longtime and active member of Zion Lutheran Church where he was active in youth groups, Men's Club and as an usher and member of church council. Fraternal organizations that Harry was involved with included service on the Golden K Kiwanis Board of Directors as well as official seller of the club's blue jackets and ticket taker and usher at a multitude of athletic events. He was a life time member of the Elks Lodge and a longtime member and treasurer of the Minot Ostomy Chapter. Also, he was a member of the Eagles Aerie, Moose Lodge and regular volunteer at the Norsk Hostfest.

He especially enjoyed travel, golf, woodworking, walking and spending time at Rice Lake and with his grandchildren.

Harry's loving family includes his wife of 61 years Helen; sons: Allan Schon (Cheri Radford) of Minot, North Dakota; and Wesley (Renee) Schon of Sioux Falls South Dakota.

And grandchildren: Eric, Meredith, Marissa, Chelsey, Jonathan, Caleb, Jackson, Angel and Skylia.

He is also survived by his sisters: Ann Fetzer and Ardell Schon both of Bismarck, North Dakota; Elsie (Ernie) Peroni of Mount Shasta California; Frieda Spelevoy of Fayetteville Tennessee; brothers: Joe (Lorraine) Schon of Mercer North Dakota; Benny (Ruth) Schon of Turtle Lake North Dakota; and Albert Schon of Hayward California; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ida Lick and brothers: Walter and John Schon.
