About Harvey A. Toews
Our loving father and grandfather, Harvey Toews, was born to Johan P. and Emily Toews on February 6, 1920, at Verden, Oklahoma. He was tragically taken from this life in an automobile accident on June 24, 1992, at Heart Valley, Alberta, while traveling and visiting friends and relatives together with our mother and our oldest sister, Frances. He reached the age of seventy-two years.
Dad grew to manhood in Oklahoma. He gave his heart to the Lord, and on March 1, 1938, was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. He served a number of years in different CO camps, including one at Terry, Montana, from where he visited the Linden, Alberta, area.
Dad was united in marriage to our mother, Ella Isaac on February 24, 1946, at Linden, Alberta. Together they settled at Linden and they shared the joys and sorrows of life there until the time of their tragic accident.
Our father was an unselfish person who enjoyed visiting with anyone. He liked to travel and meet new people. Because of his meekness and humility, he was always concerned about the welfare of others and willing to share his convictions and to take part in church services. Dad was a lover of song and family devotions were very important to him. he will be remembered as one who loved spiritual things. He strove to gain those precious, heavenly treasures that will never pass away. Dad never did lay up great treasures upon earth, but he always provided faithfully for his family. He made their living on a small chicken and hog farm on the thirty-two acres that Mother got from her parents. He left with us a testimony that will live on in our hearts, encouraging us to follow his example.
Left to cherish precious memories are: six children: Julia of Linden; Raymond, wife Sandra, and children Esther, Merle, Lnace, and Carlin of Delisle, Saskatchewan; Marvin of Linden; Philip, wife Waunita, and children Shan and Sharla of Gentry, Arkansas; Marlene of Linden; and Sue and daughter Shaylene of Calgary; Terri Miller, a special friend who feels like part of the family; a son-in-law, Stan Penner of Ste. Anne, Manitoba; a brother, Cornelius Toews of Ulysses, Kansas; and three sisters: Mary Ann and husband Bert Skinner of Hutchinson, Kansas; Emma and husband Herbert Schmidt of Fairview, Oklahoma; Elizabeth and husband Otis Schmidt of Moundridge, Kansas. He will be greatly missed by many nephews and nieces an many other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Lloyd and Henry, and a sister, Emily.
A funeral service for Harvey, Ella and Frances was held on June 29, 1992 at the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Linden, Alberta. Burial was in the adjoining church cemetery.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Jan 19 2022, 2:04:56 UTC
