Obituary of Hattie May Abbott; as printed in The Sparta Herald, February 12, 1968 February 12, 1968 , Sparta, Wisconsin

   Hattie May Abbott, daughter of Edgar and Maria (Warren) Abbott, was born into this life in the town of Sheldon on May 18, 1877.

She was united in marriage to Rudolph Haldeman on March 14, 1895. To this union eight children were born; four daughters, namely Ethel, now Mrs. Edwin Hoffman of Norwalk, Cora, now Mrs. Edward Nicolai of Kendall, Elda, now Mrs. Ivan Goddard of Letts, Iowa, Mildred, now Mrs. Clarence Noth of Secruity, Colorado; and four sons, Bert, Roy, Howard, and Wilbur, who preceded her in death.
Mr. Haldeman died on September 15, 1937.
On June 24, 1948, Hattie married Lawrence Megee, who passed away in 1951.
With the exception of about three years in Montana after her marriage to Mr. Megee, Hattie’s entire life was spent in the Norwalk-Wilton area. She was a faithful member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church, a member of WSWS, and taught Sunday School for many years.
She passed away on Sunday, January 28, 1968, having attained the age of 90 years, 8 months, and 10 days.
Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Claude, Robert, and Willie; and one sister, Agnes.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her four daughters as mentioned previously; one sister, Mrs. Ethel Wallace of Cashton; one half-brother, Verne Abbott of Sheridan, Oregon; three half-sisters, Mrs. Della Malphy, Milwaukie, Mrs. Maude Little of LaCrosse, and Mrs. Ruth Monsoor, LaCrosse; two step-sons, Ora Megee, MacAllister and Ellsion Megee; Two step-daughters, Mrs. Avis Beck, Gallatin Gateway, Montana and Mrs. Eliza Gibbs, McAllister, Montana; 27 grandchildren; and 87 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held at 1:30 Thursday afternoon, February 1, at the Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church in Spring Valley, near Norwalk, with the Reverand Frank Wolf officiating. Vocal soloist was Mrs. Ardelle Pelton, accompanied by Mrs. Lucille Dreier as pianist. Burial was in Wanderers Rest Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were the following: Donald, Everett, LaVern, and Richard Haldeman, Ivan Goddard, and Dale Noth. The Robert Page Funeral Home of Norwalk was in charge of arrangements.
