Hedley (70), a cattle farmer, was found murdered outside his home on his farm in the Lions River area outside Howick, KwaZulu-Natal, on the morning of Monday 21st January 2021. He was ambushed and tied up, and sustained severe wounds to his face and stabbed twice in the back.
Midlands EMS spokesman Roland Robertson said paramedics were called to the farm that morning. "On their arrival, a man with fatal injuries was found in the garden outside the house and he was pronounced dead at the scene."
Police were called to the scene. According to Col. Police spokesperson Thembeka Mbele said the deceased sustained injuries to his face and was stabbed twice in the back with a sharp object.
Three firearms and a laptop were stolen.
Cases of murder and robbery are being investigated.
Hedley's wife, Judy (64), had passed away a few months prior to his death. His brother-in-law, Dennis Bellingan (70) said that Hedley and Judy had been married for many years and very happy together. They were looking at selling the farm and move to Langebaan in the Western Cape.
Bellingan said that he had seen Hedley four weeks prior to his murder, and that they talked about the many deaths in their families over the past year. "He was a good, generous man who always helped others. He was a real family man." According to Bellingan, Brown has lived on his farm for more than 20 years".
