Trudi Thannhauser Beyer said "Heinrich was operated on for cancer of the throat. His cousin, my father, Siegfried Thannhauser, at that time assistant professor of the Medical university, saw that he had the best possible attention. Heinrich survived but had a perminent traechiometry tube; His voice made by holding his hand over the tube was very hoarse. Eventually he died of liver cancer on the train back to Switzerland."
